Help those who need it in Moldova and volunteer with children. Help provide a chance of a better life by teaching English or French. Be creative, be enthusiastic, take along games or toys, and you’ll make it fun for you and them. This programme gives you the opportunity to get to know Moldova in a completely different way.
You will meet fellow volunteers, work and live together with local people, experience the eastern European culture, the country, the religion and the friendly atmosphere.

Destination info
Moldova is situated between Romania and Ukraine. Chisinau formerly known as Kishineu, is situated on the Byk River in the central area of Moldova. Visitors to this town are always surprised at how funky the city is; the communist government hasn’t put a downer on the nightlife, which continues until the early hours. The Moldovans attitude is focused on enjoying life – at all hours of the day. Visitor’s previous conceptions of this poor country may be quite inaccurate. Chisinau is the place to be in modern Moldova.

Volunteers can teach English in elementary, secondary schools and in an English Language Centre. In addition to classroom teaching, volunteers share resources, develop teaching materials with local teachers, and become involved in community and school-based projects. You are also able to teach French in the schools if you prefer.
Most volunteers work in a secondary school where students start to learn English at about ten years old. Your main focus as a volunteer is to teach conversational English. The local teachers will assist you with classroom preparation and lesson content. Moldovan students are enthusiastic to find out about life outside of Moldova as most haven't had the opportunity to travel. You will find yourself a popular addition to the local teaching staff.
There are typically thirty students in a class. Volunteers work mainly in language lessons although there maybe opportunities to help in other classes such as sports and music.

Minimum age
Minimum age is 18, maximum age dependent on volunteer's health.
Accommodation
You will be staying with a friendly host family in Causeni or Chisinau. You will get your own room and will have shared Western style bathrooms amenities.
Meals
Your host family will provide you with 2 meals a day, breakfast and lunch or dinner (your choice).
Advice & Safety
Throughout your programmes you will have the support and guidance of the programme co-ordinator and team. You will be provided with competent assistance and help with any questions or advice you may need during your stay.
You will be assigned a personal travel advisor who will co-ordinate your programme with you. Feel free to contact them at any time before you go, or when you are on your travels.
In addition, you will have access to a 24 hour emergency contact number so you can contact one of our UK staff at any time should you need to.
FAQ
1. What language do they speak in Moldova?
They speak mostly Romanian and also Russian. You do not need to be able to speak the languages but you should take a phrasebook or at least some key words with.
2. Is Moldova safe?
Yes it is safe, but you should also use common sense when exploring the area and with looking after your belongings. An in country coordinator will always be available for you.
3. What is the average age of volunteers on this programme?
Ages are mixed and vary from 17 to 70. All ages are welcome!
4. Will I be living with other volunteers?
Host families tend to only host one volunteer per home.
5. What is the weather like in Moldova?
The climate is not dissimilar to the UK with the summers generally being hotter.

Rich, diverse and extremely memorable two weeks. Highly worthwhile.
Meeting the Moldovan people and finding out about their country and way of life. Gaining an insight into the education system there and experiencing several lessons with children of various ages. Staying with a friendly and generous Russian family and finding out about life for one lady as a child in a gold-mining town on the far side of the Urals. Attending a spectacular wedding reception. Trying to speak new languages. Visiting Odessa and other new places.
Prepare a presentation (some pictures etc) about yourself to show to the kids in the schools. Learn at least a few basic words/phrases in Romanian and Russian. Don't forget to pack your mobile phone and a little torch might come in handy too.
