Day 1: Arrival

Welcome to Australia! Arriving at Sydney, you’ll be met at the airport by one of our friendly team who will take you to your accommodation to get settled in. Meet the rest of your group for a few drinks in the evening.

Day 2: Orientation & Harbour Cruise

You'll get a full city orientation today, where your guide will take you on a tour of Sydney and tell you all you'll need to know about the area (including the best places to shop, eat, and drink at!). In the afternoon the group will head out on a private boat for a cruise around Sydney Harbour.

Day 3: Bondi Beach & BBQ

We'll spend time chilling out on Bondi Beach today before doing the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, where you'll get to snorkel, play beach volleyball, and enjoy a beach BBQ and drinks.

Day 4: Port Stephens Sandboarding

On day five we'll head north to the coastal town of Port Stephens. Today you'll get to feed wild kangaroos before we head off for a sand boarding session then relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the Port Stephens area. In the evening we'll have a BBQ and sit around a bonfire on the beach.

Please note in winter months (June, July, and August), we'll go on a brewery tour in Port Stephens rather than stopping for a surf lesson.

Day 5: Surfing

We'll travel by 4x4 and stop off at a secluded bay for a surf lesson with qualified instructors and ride the waves with the Aussie surfers. Back in Sydney later on, we'll enjoy a night out on the town.

Days 6-7: Free time in the city

The next couple of days are pretty chilled as far as schedules go, which is a great opportunity for you to explore Sydney for yourself. Spend some time with our team in Sydney on day 6 and get your onward travel sorted - they have loads of useful information and advice to help you and can assist with reservations too! On Day 7, why not spend the day checking out more of Sydney, try out your new surf skills on Bondi Beach, go for a dip in the city's famous ocean pool, or take a wander around the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens? In the evening we'll all go out for a farewell 'all you can eat' buffet dinner at Australia's highest revolving restaurant.

Day 8: Departure

There are no activities scheduled for day nine, so you're free to depart whenever you like – ask the team there to help you plan onward travel around the rest of the country.

Your accommodation in Sydney is a lively backpacker’s hostel in the heart of the city, close to the harbour and lots of brilliant sights. You’ll be sharing a comfortable mixed dorm with 7-9 others, and have access to shared areas, Wifi, and your own locker. The hostel is located next door to The Scary Canary – a lively hub for backpackers to drink and dance after an action-packed day in the city. In Port Stephens you'll stay in a unique mixed dorm bush bungalow for an authentic Aussie experience.

1 breakfast, 4 lunches and 2 dinners are included. Sydney is a huge cosmopolitan city full of excellent eateries, bars, and cafes – so you’ll be spoilt for choice for your other meals, but you can always ask the team at the hostel for help choosing where to go. Our local team have installed safe refillable water stations at each overnight location on this trip. In an effort to reduce the use of single use plastics, we ask that you bring your own refillable water bottle with you.

You should arrange flights to Sydney International Airport (SYD) to arrive on the first day of your programme start date. You will be met by one of our friendly team at the airport who will take you to your accommodation in the centre of Sydney. Your trip finishes on your programme end date, no activities are planned on your final day, so you are free to depart at any time.

The minimum age for this trip is 18. This trip requires you to show evidence that you have been fulled vaccinated against covid-19 (final dose administered a minimum of 14 days prior to the start of the trip).

All visitors to Australia (except New Zealand residents) will require a visa or Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) to enter: these must be obtained before departing. If you're planning on taking paid work whilst in Australia you'll need a Working Holiday Visa. Both types of visa can be applied for online. Please feel free to contact us if you need any more information.

What Usually Happens After The First Nine Days?

After the first eight nights it’s all up to you! If you’re not going home you may stay to explore Australia some more, or you may travel onwards to a different country. While your guide will be happy to advise you, you’ll be responsible for all onward travel following the end date of your programme.

Do I Need A Certain Amount Of Money To Enter Australia?

If you have a Working Holiday Visa or have a return ticket out of Australia you’re unlikely to be asked to show evidence of funds. If you’re on a Tourist Visa or only in possession of a one way ticket you may be asked to show a bank statement upon arrival in Australia, and it’s a good idea to have the equivalent of at least $3,000 AUD. Please note that you’ll of course need sufficient spending money during your experience, so it’s a good idea to plan a budget for any meals, drinks, activities or travel not covered during your trip.

Do I Need Any Vaccinations?

We’re not qualified to offer you medical advice, so you should visit your GP well ahead of time to find out what inoculations you might need. Remember to tell them exactly where you’re travelling to as vaccination and medication requirements vary between different Indian regions. You’ll also need to make sure you have enough of any prescribed medication to see you through the duration of your trip.

Should I Take A Backpack Or A Suitcase?

We recommend you use a soft bag or frameless backpack, plus a small bag for excursions. We recommend one piece of main luggage per person with a maximum weight of 15-20kg.

How Much Spending Money Will I Need?

We recommend you allow 75AUD-100AUD per day for this trip to cover daily expenses including any meals or refreshments not included in the cost of the trip, optional activities, and souvenirs. If you're staying in Australia or travelling to other countries following your programme end date, please make sure you have sufficient funds in excess of your spending expectations – a pre-loaded cash card or low-interest credit card are both great ways to access money whilst abroad. If you plan to work whilst you're in Australia, or are staying for an extended period of time, you might be required to provide proof that you can support yourself financially, and you'll need to have at least 3,000AUD in your account.

Due to Covid-19, many of our partners and suppliers across the globe are putting in place new procedures and policies regarding health and safety in response to the outbreak. These new measures will adapt and change as the state of travel evolves, and the policies and procedures will vary depending on each trip. Some changes that you may experience on our trips are:

Updated safety & hygiene procedures
Health and safety measures will be adapted by our partners and suppliers, dependent on local laws and restrictions.

Different transport & accommodation
You may find yourself on transport or in accommodation that would not typically be used, such as hostels that are more secluded, or on more private transport. This may vary by trip, or even by individual departure dates.

Arrival meetings
Most trips include a meeting on arrival with the guide or local team to discuss the trip, and this is an opportunity for you to ask any questions. You should arrive in time to attend these briefings.

Emergency support 24/7
We have a UK based 24/7 emergency phone line if you have a genuine urgent matter that you need attending.

Knowledgeable & Trained Staff
We can help answer any questions or concerns you may have before you depart. Whilst travelling the guide or local team on our trips are there to help, and to ensure the smooth running of our trips.

Medical care
Should you require medical assistance whilst travelling, the local team or guide will be able to help you get to a point of care. Medical facilities and standards can vary across the glove, so you should ensure you have adequate travel insurance in place.

Varying group sizes
To begin with, many trips will run with amended group sizes, so you may find smaller groups than would be typical. This may vary by trip, or even by individual departure dates.

Whilst there may be changes on our trips, it is vital that you make travelling safer for yourself, your travel companions, the local staff and guides, and the people of the country you are visiting. You should follow all local laws and restrictions, and follow the guidance of the local team. In addition, you can help make travel safer by bringing and using your own face coverings/masks and hand sanitiser, social distance where appropriate, wash your hands frequently, and cover your face when coughing or sneezing.
