Gap 360's Becky shares her experience when her family surprised her with a visit while in Sydney..

So it's been a very eventful few weeks for me here in Sydney. As you know Melissa had her parents and sister come visit (see previous post) and I was expecting my sister to visit too. I was really excited to see her and I was planning things we were going to do. A few days before she arrived my dad skyped me and told me he was right here in Sydney! I thought he was joking. I can't believe he kept it quiet but I'm glad he did because it was an amazing surprise.

I met up with my dad at his hotel in Darling Harbour and we went for a walk around the shops and cafés. It was so nice to catch up with him, it turns out he was invited to Sydney with his work and he was able to add a few days on to spend with me. We enjoyed a drink in a garden bar before heading over to circular quay to see the opera house and harbour bridge. By the time we got back to the hotel my dad was really tired and ended falling asleep about 5pm and waking up at 2am!

Top tip: if you are on a day flight, try and stay awake as long as possible to get accustomed to the time difference here, you will feel the benefit afterwards.

So after a busy weekend showing my dad around Sydney it was time for him to start work. It was great timing because my sister arrived Monday morning and I went to pick her up from the airport. The family I am currently au pairing for were very kind and let her stay over for the time she was here.,if you have family or friends over here in Oz I would definitely recommend visiting them for a day or two- free accommodation and the best tour guides around!

We had a very busy two weeks cramming in the highlights of Sydney and also getting plenty tanning time. My sister had a friend visiting family too so I was able to share tour guide duties. We did the blue mountains, aquarium, Manly beach, Bondi to Coogee coastal walk and The Rocks markets to name a few. We also had plenty of nights out, we went out in Kings cross, Bondi beach and of course I took them for a backpacker night in side bar.

We were able to meet up with my dad again for a few days, then it was time for them both to leave. It was soo nice to see my family while travelling, even if my sister did get a better tan than me! It was emotional to say to say goodbye to them but I am excited for the next part of my trip and I will look forward to seeing them when I'm home.

Next stop New Zealand! We will keep you posted.
