Grab that passport and get ready as we’ve put together a list of THE best travel destinations for 2016.

With a team of experienced backpackers who are taking ‘gap years’ a little too often perhaps, we know where in the world is shaping up to be beaut in 2016. So whether you want to hit-up Thailand, witness the unique sunrise and history of Angkor Wat, learn to surf in Sydney or step off the beaten track, we’ve got you covered!

Get that pen and paper (or phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, smart watch these days) as here are some seriously epic destinations to add to that bucket list!

Thailand

From the hustle and bustle of Bangkok to the gorgeous islands of Koh Samui and Koh Tao, Thailand has it all for every type of backpacker. Start in the capital city of Bangkok and experience the vibrant Thai culture with floating marketing, delicious street food and tuk tuk rides! In the south of Thailand the most beautiful beaches can be found, not forgetting the notorious Full Moon Parties of Koh Phangan. Here you can spend your chill time island hopping, kayaking in Marine Nation parks or even jungle trekking before the glow sticks, bucket cocktails and beach parties start in the evening. As one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, Thailand is the one for first time travellers.

Cambodia

The sunrise over the astonishing temples of Angkor is not one to be missed! Cambodia has a more untouched feel compared to its neighbouring countries and for this reason has become a great backpacker location for those looking for a little more sophistication and spirituality. If a mix of history, culture and authenticity appeals to you then we thoroughly recommend this amazing country. Home to the ‘eighth wonder of the world’ (Angkor Wat) Cambodia has so much to offer, not forgetting great beaches, Sihanoukville is rated one of Asia’s top coastlines.

Bali

If you’re looking for paradise then it is simple, head to Bali! This Indonesian treasure has it all, from temples, monkeys (check out Monkey Forest) to some of the best surf on the planet and don’t get us started on the nightlife! The laid back Balinese culture is addictive, you’ll fall in love with the place instantly. For the times where you need some rest and relaxation why not try some Balinese yoga and meditation?! In between those times of Zen it’s time to head out and soak it all up. Kuta has some mega surf spots, Ubud provides captivating heritage and beauty, whilst the island of Gili Trawangan (Gili T) is a snorkelling and diving bliss.

South Africa

In search of adventure in the wilderness? South Africa is wildlife galore! Kruger National Park is home to the jaw-dropping big five, so make sure you keep an eye out for rhinos, leopards, buffalos, elephants and lions all in their natural habitat! For those adrenaline junkies out there, how does diving with Great White Sharks sound (cages provided!)?! What about abseiling from the impressive Table Mountain?! Or maybe you’ve heard of Jeffrey’s Bay – home of the World Surf Tour! We have a huge range of trips in South Africa, so whether you want to get up close to wildlife, experience life on the edge or help develop local communities, there is something for everyone in this unmissable country.

Australia

Where do we start with this incredible country? We just have SO much love for the place! A top 5 just wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the whopper that is Australia. There’s Sydney, Great Ocean Road, Surfers Paradise, The Great Barrier Reef, The Outback, Whitsundays and loads more! Stretching over 7.6 MILLION square kilometres it’s literally impossible to describe just how vast and varied Australia is. With everything from iconic cities and beach hot spots, to dry deserts and lush rainforests, wherever your travels take you make sure you keep an eye out for native koalas and kangaroos! Most of our backpackers opt for Australia to work and travel, you can fund your travels once out there from picking up a job! Travel this beauty in your free time and pick up some great mates for life along the way.

You’re now probably sat wondering which one of these to choose first, well don’t sweat it! There is plenty of time for travelling, we advise you read up some more on these great locations and decide which will match your plans for 2016 (there’s always round the world trips).
