What happens in regards to the latest FCO advice?
We are in the process of contacting all of our travellers who are due to travel soon and help them with alternative arrangements or offer a credit for use at a later date if you would like to postpone your trip.
For customers due to travel in 30 days away or more, we will be closely monitoring the situation and will evaluate the FCO advice nearer the time of your trip. If the FCO advice is lifted your trip would still be able to go ahead as planned. If you would like to postpone your trip, please see the section below.
A travel credit would also be offered if Real Gap Experience cancelled a trip because we felt travel to a country would be too problematic, for example, due to entry restrictions. FCO and local government advice is changing constantly so please check the FCO website for up to date information.
As you can appreciate, the travel situation regarding the Coronavirus outbreak is a fluid situation, changing day by day. All information and updates are subject to change without warning, and for the latest information regarding your travel plans, you should contact your travel co-ordinator or check the latest FCO advice.
What if I want to postpone my place on a trip?
If you want to postpone your trip, please contact your travel co-ordinator via email and they will be happy to assist you and outline your options regarding changing your start date or trip. At the moment we are experiencing a high volume of enquiries and we are dealing with travellers on a priority basis, determined by how close their departure date is. Please rest assured if you have emailed your travel co-ordinator they will get back to you as soon as possible. If you don't know your travel co-ordinator's email, then you can submit your query to [email protected]

If you are currently overseas: Returning to the UK
You should speak to your airline directly in regards to changing your ticket, or if you require a new flight you should book that directly with the relevant airline. Rules and regulations are changing all the time and it is imperative that you check local government and FCO advice about onwards travel, especially in regards to transiting through other countries.
If you are struggling to find flight availability returning to the UK you should contact your local British Embassy for information and assistance, and you should also check the latest FCO advice, including individual country pages (for example, Australia). The FCO has advice about how to return to the UK and what you should do if you cannot return at this time.
Many British Embassies around the world are updating British Citizens in-country via social media - particularly Twitter and Facebook. Some embassies are also setting up forms and contact lists where you can register, so you can be informed of any new flight availability or other developments. In addition to your local embassy, you can also contact your travel insurance provider about what they may cover under your policy. If your trip has been cut short, your guide or the local team may be on hand to provide assistance, including help to find and book accommodation if required.
What if I have a flight with a stopover in any country affected by coronavirus?
In order to contain the spread of the virus, some countries have suspended flights coming in from countries affected by Coronavirus and as such, some airlines may have cancelled certain routes. We recommend you speak with your airline regarding any potential flight changes and alternative routes.
As you may have seen on the news, some countries have introduced entry restrictions (including but not limited to, denial of entry, enhanced medical screening and quarantine) for anyone who has recently travelled in or through destinations considered high risk. It is important that you regularly check the entry requirements with the embassies of all the destinations you are travelling to in the run-up to your trip, as all entry regulations are subject to change (even if you have already been granted a visa).
What if I am travelling from (or are a resident of or travelling on a passport from) a country affected by coronavirus?
Some countries have implemented new entry restrictions for people travelling through or from coronavirus affected countries. You should check with the embassies of all countries that you will be visiting regarding any entry restrictions that may apply to you, even if you have already had a visa granted. As entry regulations regarding coronavirus are continuously evolving, it is important to monitor the FCO advice for the destinations you are travelling to in the run-up to your trip as information is subject to change.
