Day 1: Arrival

Arriving in beautiful Siem Reap, our team will meet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation. Depending on the time you arrive, you'll have the opportunity to explore the busy streets, colourful markets, and local attractions, or simply chill out. In the evening you'll get to meet the rest of your group and tour guide with a welcome meal and a few drinks.

Day 2: Cambodia rural experience and sunset BBQ

Today you'll get a unique Cambodian experience when you will travel by tuk tuk through the local streets to a local mango farmer, where you will learn all about what life is really like in rural Cambodia. After that your local guide will take you to his family home where the group can help prepare lunch. Later we will travel back to the city where you can relax by the pool, or explore the bustling streets before a sunset BBQ in the evening.

Day 3: Sunrise at Angkor Wat

It's an early start to the day today to make our way to the ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat - a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to some of the world's oldest and largest religious monuments. We'll get to watch the sunrise over the main temple building before exploring the rest of the historical site.

Day 4-5: Phnom Penh S21 and Killing Fields

Today you’ll travel to the capital – Phnom Penh. Upon arrival your guide will get you oriented with the city. On day 5 you’ll get to learn about the country's devastating, and not so distant, history with a sobering tour of the Killing Fields and S21 Prison, a former high school used as a prison in the 1970s during the Khmer Rouge regime, which was responsible for one of the most horrific mass killings of the twentieth century. Enjoy a relaxing evening with a market tour and a few drinks.

Days 6-7: Kampot water park and cooking class

On day six we’ll make our way south to the charming riverside town of Kampot and head to a great spot along the river to have fun chilling out and playing in the water with rope swings, pontoons and river tubes. In the evening enjoy some food and a few drinks in a rooftop bar. The next day, we will head to a local pepper plantation to learn about the famous Kampot peppers before putting your new knowledge to the test when you cook a delicious local Khmer meal.

Days 8-9: Koh Rong Samloem

From one beautiful beach destination to another, we'll ride through the waves to the exquisite setting of Koh Rong Samloem - a breathtaking island paradise covered in lush green vegetation and long white beaches. Checking into one of our favourite backpacker resorts with its own private bay, we'll be calling this blissful place home for the next couple of nights, so take time to unwind surrounded by the island's incredible natural beauty and laidback atmosphere. Explore the islands in a traditional longtail boat and snorkel in the vibrant coral filled waters.

Day 10: Farewell

It's time to check out and say goodbye to new friends today, and with no additional activities planned, you're free to depart from Koh Rong Samloem any time. You can ask your tour guide to help you arrange transport back to Phnom Penh.

2020 Itinerary

Please note the above itinerary is for 2021 start dates only. If you wish to travel in 2020 then you will follow a slightly longer 12 day itinerary which ends in Phnom Penh. Please speak to a travel advisor for more details.

Please note activities and itineraries are subject to change.

  • 9 nights of accommodation
  • All transport between destinations on the itinerary

You’ll stay in a range of different accommodation during this trip, which will mainly consist of comfortable backpacker guesthouses, all with swimming pools and air conditioning, apart from your accommodation on Koh Rong Samloem, which is right on the beach with its own private bay! You’ll share a twin or triple room with other members of the same sex from your group.

Meals aren't included as part of this package (other than the local lunch and cooking class listed in the itinerary), which is a fantastic opportunity for you to get out and try the local cuisine – which is absolutely delicious by the way. You'll be able to get recommendations from your tour leaders on which restaurants, cafes and bars are the best to visit.

You should arrange for your flights to arrive into Siem Reap International Airport (REP) on your programme start date

You trip ends on the island of Koh Rong Samloem on day 10. Return transfers to the nearest airport in Phnom Penh are not included but easy to arrange locally. As it will take 5-7 hours to get back to Phnom Penh we recommend you depart Phnom Penh after 8pm on your end date or the following day in case of delays.

Please note, if you are travelling in 2020 your trip will end in Phnom Penh on day 12.

Minimum age for this trip is 18 years.

You will need a visa to enter Cambodia. You can obtain a visa online before travelling or on arrival at the airport (where you will need to pay a fee in USD). You should ensure that your passport will still be in date for six months after your return. All visa information is subject to change and you should consult the nearest High Commission or Embassy for the most up to date information.

How Much Spending Money Should I Bring With Me?

We recommend bringing between £300-£400 spending money for this trip, although if you’re planning on taking part in lots of optional activities, or have a penchant for market stalls and travel memorabilia, bring a bit more with you.

Do I Need To Bring Bedding Or A Towel?

No need to bring bedding – it’s all provided at your accommodation. We do however recommend you bring at least one towel with you.

Should I Pack A Mosquito Net?

You can do if you like, but it’s not necessary if you make sure the windows and doors to your room are kept shut. It’s worth bringing a decent mosquito repellent with you though!

Due to Covid-19, many of our partners and suppliers across the globe are putting in place new procedures and policies regarding health and safety in response to the outbreak. These new measures will adapt and change as the state of travel evolves, and the policies and procedures will vary depending on each trip. Some changes that you may experience on our trips are:

Updated safety & hygiene procedures
Health and safety measures will be adapted by our partners and suppliers, dependent on local laws and restrictions.

Different transport & accommodation
You may find yourself on transport or in accommodation that would not typically be used, such as hostels that are more secluded, or on more private transport. This may vary by trip, or even by individual departure dates.

Arrival meetings
Most trips include a meeting on arrival with the guide or local team to discuss the trip, and this is an opportunity for you to ask any questions. You should arrive in time to attend these briefings.

Emergency support 24/7
We have a UK based 24/7 emergency phone line if you have a genuine urgent matter that you need attending.

Knowledgeable & Trained Staff
We can help answer any questions or concerns you may have before you depart. Whilst travelling the guide or local team on our trips are there to help, and to ensure the smooth running of our trips.

Medical care
Should you require medical assistance whilst travelling, the local team or guide will be able to help you get to a point of care. Medical facilities and standards can vary across the glove, so you should ensure you have adequate travel insurance in place.

Varying group sizes
To begin with, many trips will run with amended group sizes, so you may find smaller groups than would be typical. This may vary by trip, or even by individual departure dates.

Whilst there may be changes on our trips, it is vital that you make travelling safer for yourself, your travel companions, the local staff and guides, and the people of the country you are visiting. You should follow all local laws and restrictions, and follow the guidance of the local team. In addition, you can help make travel safer by bringing and using your own face coverings/masks and hand sanitiser, social distance where appropriate, wash your hands frequently, and cover your face when coughing or sneezing.
